Bridge

July

This house really bears it all
The pictures on the wall
Echo from the past
Whatever used to refer to life
The struggle and the strife
Fades away so fast
You went across the frozen borderline
Without even a goodbye
With the black out of the flame
The icy winter came
In the middle of july

I like to meet you in a dream
Everything will seem
To be alright
The warmth will slowly linger on
When the sleep is gone
With the night
You stay across the frozen borderline
Where the burning colors fly
With the black out of the flame
The icy winter came
In the middle of july

Mercy

Some people say that life is fair
and everyone gets an equal share
of luck and pain, but we know they are lying
Cause when you have eyes and when yu have ears
It can’t be else than completely clear
Some do most of the laughing, while others are mainly crying

I hope they find mercy

Maybe it’s in your heart or in your head
It will find you in the crowd or when you are alone in your bed
maybe it will come soon or maybe further on down the line
Don’t need no big book, don’t need a cross
No preacher, no teacher, don’t need no boss
But a little bit of mercy just would be fine

I hope you find mercy
I hope you find mercy
I hope you find mercy
In your life

Holes in My Soul

Oh baby, don’t you understand
There ain’t no comfort in the works of man
We’re little creatures
We just creep and crawl
And put the holes in our soul

We’re falling angels that lost their wings
We’re simple peasants but we act like kings
We tell the lies
Big and small
That put the holes in our soul

This darkness shines so bright
Another taste of cheap delight
Is this a curse or only a spell
I could sleep for a week
And still be as tired as hell

Lord, I put my trust in you
To guide my ways and to lead me through
You are there
Whenever I may call
To mend the holes in my soul

Leonard

Last night I have been drinking
and when I say drinking,
I really mean drinking
A bit sad actually
All alone

And last night I have been listening
And when I say listening,
I do mean listening
To the latest songs
of Leonard Cohen

It was such a treat to hear him sing
And hearing the back-vocal ladies
humming their back-vocal thing
Some people grow great over time
Like some vintage whiskey
or some grand cru wine

Last night when I was drinking,
I was actually celebrating my mother’s birthday
She died way before her time
And lately, I can’t get that out of my mind
And with every itch I feel I think I am gonna die
I never even slept a night in a hospital bed
But mark my words, when bad luck strikes
I am as good as dead

I know statistics tell, it is just ghost of a chance
But still I am just a bunch of worries
still i am just a bunch of worries
still i am just a bunch of worries in pants

Last night when I was listening to Leonard
an image leaped to mind
And it touched me quite a bit
I was old, smart dressed, and I even wore a hat
And I said only words of wisdom and wit

Maybe it was the whiskey and the wine
But what do I care, the message suits me just fine
So all you fools out there
who do not like my style
You better run and hide
You better get used to it
or go fuck yourselves
Because I’m gonna be around for a while

Tiny Kindness

Love is the tiny kindness
The tiny kindness that pulls us through

I have taken a step back
Just to see what I’ve got
Now what’s the verdict
A have or a have not?
Went and came back
Lost the map but
but am where I need to be
touched the sky
and tasted the love
of friends surrounding me

Now say the words
That will heal the soul
be on someone’s side
When life takes its toll
Touch a hand
and share some laughter
Provide a place in the docks
be true like ice
and blazing fire
but gentle as a caring dove

When you are looking for light
You should open up the blinds
And it’s the mind that searches
But the heart that finds
And there is nothing that, nothing that
is more true
then love is the tiny kindness,
love is the tiny kindness
love is the tiny kindness
that pulls us through
that pulls us through

Love is the tiny kindness
The tiny kindness that pulls us through

Marilyn (Dream Dust Avenue)

I have taken the medicine
Drank the oil of weed
All these nice devices
That help you sleep
I am hitting the sack
and plan to sleep for a year
I am screaming out loud
‘Don’t dare to disturb’
And I am telling myself
Insommia is just another word
I turn on my back
and the world a deaf ear

I am damn dog tired and so glad this day is through
And now I am gonna walk on Dream Dust Avenue

And then the door opens
And Neil walks in
With a monkey on his shoulder
And Tiny Tim
Doing handstands
and dancing the bugaloo
And mr. Marconi
tugs his radio
And correct me if I am wrong
but isn’t that Marilyn Monroe
Blowing kisses at JFK
and whisteling Rhapsody in Blue

I am damn dog tired and so glad this day is through
And now I am joining the parade at Dream Dust Avenue

At day I play my role in this monkey house
But at night I am walking on clouds

Elvis and the colonel
Fight over a chocolate cake
While Miles is blowing dixy,
exploring beautiful mistakes
and captain Ahab
shouts ‘Ahoy’ and ‘Hurah’
Than the wallls start crumbling
As the mainframe shakes
In my dream I know I am dreaming
Pretty sure, it’s time to wake
I open up my eyes
Just to see Marilyn slip away

I was damn dead dog tired and so glad this day was through
And now I’m happy as a hog at Dream Dust Avenue

Sister of Mercy

You say we’re just scrabblers
I add: but we can always try
Among the tattlers and babblers
Your words just burn like fires
Many layers
But never a false bottom
Blessed are those
that saw your stars and caught ‘em (got ‘em)
Your care comes so tersely
Sister of Mercy

A long way from acquaintances
to where we are right now
I will always find your face
No matter how large the crowd
Scrabblers we are
and that’s just the way it is
But scrabblers like you
hold more than a touch of bliss
Your colors shine diversely Sister of Mercy

The Bridge She Built

She’s standing at the other side
At night when i can’t get to sleep
She’s watching the river in between
that once ran so wide
that once ran so deep

She’s holding a torch to light my path
She’s holding a map and a key to my heart
She knows the prayers that heal the soul
Of every ending she knows the start

She steps from the shadow into the light
Revealing the day that will follow the night
Chanting the songs that will fill the sky
About the years that went by
She’s got a smile on her lips
And tears in her eyes
Revealing the truth
That will follow the lies
I’m taking my first step
So unstable and shy
On the bridge she built
In july

One Step Further Home

Oh Mama, it’s just that lately
You’re so often on my mind
The times we had,
The times that passed
The times that were denied
Cause it won’t be long
Until I am older than you
And it sends a chill up the spine
To know there is so little time
For all the things you mean to do

So that’s why I need the comfort
That no matter where I roam
Every step that I take
Takes me one step further home

You can make travel plans
But paper is patient, as you know
To really get somewhere
You’ve got to get out of your chair
And put your feet on the road
It’s time that you’ll stop going
And that you will start to go
Cause there is always a reason,
an excuse for treason
against the heart and the soul

Always do what you don’t dare to
Cause nothing is written in stone
And every step that you’ll take
Takes you one step further home

So mama, It’s just that lately
I often find myself thinking of you
How you just went your way
From day to day
Without much ado
And I hope I live to learn
To take life more as it comes
But also to be more wise
Focussed and consize
And not to spend too much effort on just crumbs

Got some more years to come
And they will be the best I will know
And every step that I’ll take
Takes me one step further home

Nocturne

Rest your head
Close your eyes
May there be peace
in your heart tonight
May your pain
be followed by a laugh
and may love’s light
shine on your path

Keepers of Our Soul

So may years for better and worse
We’re our shelter from the rain
You’re so familiar to my heart
You know my ways, you know my name
And for all that we’ve tried
And all we’ve learned
All we stole
And all we’ve earned
We are not one
But we are a whole
We are the keepers of our soul

Twins in heaven, lovers on earth
You’re always so near
I’m so familiar to your heart
I know your pain, i know your fears
And for all that we’ve won
And all we’ve lost
For all the gain and
And all the costs
I would do it again
No doubt at all
‘Cause we are the keepers of our soul

Of our soul, we are the keepers
